We are recruiting for a part‑time (26.25 hours per week) Assistant Scientist based in Elgin, on a permanent basis. SEPA protects the environment and delivers high‑quality hydrometric data to support services such as Flood Warning, Drought Risk Assessment, Bathing Water Assessment, and Flood Modelling and Mapping.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Undertake field measurements and maintain monitoring infrastructure.
  • Process and analyse hydrometric data.
  • Work flexibly across other business units as required.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with climate resilience activities and participate in an on‑call out‑of‑hours duty rota.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Knowledge of environmental processes, ideally hydrological processes.
  • Minimum Scottish Highers, National Certificate or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 6–7.
  • Technical or scientific professional experience (minimum 1 year).
  • Experience of lone working outdoors and knowledge of health & safety and safe working practices.
  • Strong IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Full UK driving licence and own vehicle; at least 80% of the time you will work outdoors in remote parts of Scotland.
