You’ll also have the opportunity to lead work that supports SEPA’s financial sustainability, strengthens the governance of our charging schemes, and ensures our finance system continues to provide robust information for decision-making.

This role will provide strategic leadership across two business-critical areas: SEPA’s charging schemes and our corporate finance system.

  • Lead the strategic development of SEPA’s charging schemes, ensuring they are financially robust, proportionate, transparent, implementable and aligned to organisational objectives.
  • Work collaboratively across finance, policy, service delivery and other functions to coordinate complex programmes of work, apply strong analytical judgement, and support clear decision-making on charging options and impacts.
  • Provide senior stewardship of SEPA’s corporate finance system, which supports financial control, statutory reporting, budgeting, forecasting, management information, income and charging processes.
  • Oversee system ownership, configuration and change, working closely with digital, finance and people colleagues to maintain the integrity, resilience and appropriate governance of the system.
  • Use strong communication, influencing and collaborative leadership skills to provide assurance to senior leaders on the resilience, governance and effectiveness of charging arrangements and the finance system.

This is a highly important role within our Governance, Performance & Engagement portfolio, which means you’ll need:

  • CCAB-qualified accountant status, or equivalent senior-level finance qualification or experience, with evidence of leading complex finance systems, charging or cost recovery work in a public sector or similarly regulated environment.
  • Significant senior-level experience of stewardship, management or ownership of a corporate ERP or finance system and the business processes it supports.
  • Experience of operating within legislative, policy and governance frameworks relevant to finance, charging or public sector accountability.
  • Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders and external suppliers through clear communication, influencing, consultation and collaborative working.
  • A proven track record of analysing complex financial, operational and technical information to lead cross-functional work in charging, system development and organisational change.
