The post holder will provide a supervisory role in SEPA’s Compliance Function, which leads on all aspects of the regulatory process including environmental performance, pollution incidents, enforcement and resolution. The roles arebased in the geographic region covered by the Falkirk, Alloa, Stirling, Perth;Glasgow Central, and Lanarkshire teams.

As a Senior Regulator (SEPO) in the Compliance function, you will:

• Allocate and supervise work for a team and monitor the quality of work to ensure excellent customer service. Direct the day to day planning, organisation and control of team work.
• Oversee, support, and where needed you will directly lead on activities of a more contentious, complex, or sensitive nature. This includes; assessing the level of compliance with statutory requirements authorisations, investigating the more serious/contentious complaints or reports of significant pollution incidents, andinitiating enforcement action where necessary and advising team members of appropriate levels of enforcement action within the delegated boundaries.
• Provide guidance and regulatory advice to both internal and external stakeholders where the issues are not clear-cut; explain, justify, and defend particular courses of action or proposals put forward for consideration; resolve tensions and difficulties when these arise and identify and satisfy internal and external stakeholder requirements.
• Lead by example, promoting our values and behaviours, and create a positive working culture that supports employee health and wellbeing.

Respect for your expertise

This is a highly important role within our Regulation, Business & Environmentportfolio, which means you’ll need:

• Relevant experience or qualification equivalent to SCQF Level 8-10
• Highly developed oral and written communication skills, ability to build and maintain good internal and external regulatory relationships
• A comprehensive knowledge and demonstratable experience of the associated legislation, policy, and guidance as relates to pollution control, event response, compliance, and compliance related enforcement.
• Good at planning and organisational skills, with the ability to spot problems and risks, and put measures in place to prevent or mitigate them
• Great people skills, with the ability to support, develop, and coach officers in delivering work and engage with key teams to gain the support we need from others
