At Scottish Enterprise, we support Scotland’s most ambitious companies to innovate, scale, and help transform the economy. The next decade will bring both major challenges and extraordinary opportunities. To meet them, we’re focused on three bold missions:
- Building a globally competitive energy transition industry
- Scaling Scotland’s innovation strengths into high-growth industries of the future
- Unlocking capital investment to boost productivity and create high-value jobs
As Scotland’s national economic development agency – and a key delivery partner for the Scottish Government’s National Strategy for Economic Transformation – we play a central role in turning these missions into real outcomes for Scotland’s businesses and communities. This role offers the chance to contribute directly to that work. You’ll support our financial reporting service, providing the data and insight that help colleagues across the organisation make informed decisions. Your work will help us deliver the greatest value for Scotland, while giving you the opportunity to build your skills in financial systems, processes and controls.
The Finance System Specialist will help coordinate and deliver our new finance system (Workday Financial Management). You’ll work closely with the Finance System Project Team Leader to make sure the system works well for the organisation and meets the necessary regulatory requirements. That means spending time with colleagues to understand what they need, then helping design and put in place the right system solutions. The role focuses on the practical side of getting the new system up and running – from configuration and data migration to testing, user training and supporting a smooth move to business-as-usual. You’ll collaborate with teams across the organisation to solve problems, support system integration and play a key part in a successful rollout.
Responsibilities
- System development and implementation – help design and roll out our new Workday finance system so it works for the organisation and meets all regulatory requirements. This includes speaking to colleagues, understanding what they need, and turning those needs into practical system solutions.
- Technical financial guidance – become the go-to expert on how the new system and its processes work. You’ll build a detailed understanding of what the organisation needs and use that to shape sensible, workable workflows.
- Working with colleagues across finance and IT – make sure the new system connects smoothly with our existing processes and reporting. You’ll spend time with teams across the organisation, including at senior level, to keep things moving and solve issues as they appear.
- Supporting people through change – build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners. You’ll help explain what the system can do, highlight any challenges, suggest solutions and support a clear communication plan so that users feel confident and disruption is kept to a minimum.
- Developing policies and procedures – work with the Finance System Project Team Leader to create the policies, processes and controls that will sit around the new system. You’ll help make sure these are fully built into everyday work in the Finance Team.
- Training and user support – provide financial insight to help design and deliver training for people across the organisation. You’ll support colleagues to become comfortable and capable in the new system.
- Testing and quality checks – work with developers and finance colleagues to test the system, run user acceptance testing and track issues until they’re resolved. You’ll play a key role in checking that the system does what it’s meant to do.
- Data migration and retiring old systems – help shape how financial data moves across to the new system, making sure we meet accounting and regulatory requirements. You’ll also support the safe switch-off of legacy systems.
- Ongoing improvement – look for ways the new system could work better and help put those changes in place.
Who we’re looking for
An individual who can work on their own initiative confidently – both independently, and with members of a team. You will have a flexible and adaptable approach, are used to managing your own workload and meeting strict deadlines. You will bring knowledge and experience of finance system implementation. Your skills and experience should include:
- SCQF Level 9 Degree Level Qualification in a relevant accounting discipline
- Member of a Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) institute, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, or overseas equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience in a related discipline.

- Strong understanding of financial processes and workflows
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable skills and experience:
