We are looking for a performance hockey coach to support the Director of Hockey in all aspects of the hockey programme. The successful candidate will work alongside the dedicated hockey staff to deliver hockey sessions and coach matches from P4 up to S6.

The detail below lists the main responsibilities of this role:

The working days are Monday to Friday plus Saturday mornings with the 17 hours split as below:

  • Monday from 11:00 to 12:30 and then 16:00 to 17:15
  • Tuesday from 15:00 to 17:15
  • Wednesday from 11:00 to 17:15 (inclusive of 2 x 30 minute unpaid breaks)
  • Thursday from 15:00 to 17:15
  • Friday non-working day
  • Saturday from 8:00 to 12:30

This role is available upon confirmation of PVG membership until Thursday March 25th, 2027.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Organising and delivering high-quality coaching sessions to Junior School and Senior School aged pupils.
  • Managing groups of children, ensuring safety and ensuring the pupils uphold the expected standards of the school.
  • Selecting and organising teams each week for Saturday matches.
  • Taking registers of each session and flagging any behavioural issues or pastoral needs.
  • Working alongside the Director of Hockey to plan every session in line with the playing principles of the hockey programme.
  • Umpiring and coaching games.

While these are the key responsibilities of the role, this is not necessarily an exhaustive list and other duties may be required to ensure the smooth running of the hockey programme.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Be happy to work as part of a team in order to meet the needs of the children and the Hockey Programme as a whole – essential
  • Have an understanding of health and safety issues that affect the day-to-day running of childcare - essential
  • Have a desire to develop as a hockey coach – essential
  • Have previous experience working in hockey at a school or at junior level at a club – essential
  • Be able to work on Saturday mornings – essential
  • Have played hockey to a good standard – desirable
  • Be first aid trained – desirable
