We are committed to engaging and presenting artists’ work in collaborative projects and digital formats. We aim to offer an open and accessible platform for the discussion and experience of contemporary art in Glasgow and internationally.

About the role: Market has employed a Programme Administrator since 2022, which has proved a hugely supportive and crucial role within the organisation. Whilst the programming committee work collaboratively to produce a yearly artistic programme, the Programme Administrator supports the administration, operations, communications and financial management of Market Gallery. We are looking for someone who can continue this facilitation with skill and enthusiasm, contributing to the long‑term development and stability of the space. Market is at an exciting time of activity and growth, having been awarded multi‑year funding from Creative Scotland and entering its second year of this fund. Extension of the role beyond this is dependent on funding and how the role develops. The successful candidate is expected to work from Market Gallery’s building at 13 Ross Street on Wednesdays to coincide with the committee, with one other regular day throughout the week and occasional flexible hours over the evening and weekend. Salary pro rata at the annual rate of £16,320 (£40,800 FTE), and workplace pension. Holiday 12 days per year and 4 days bank holiday.

Duties include:

  • Financial management and bookkeeping of the gallery budget and overheads
  • Regular meetings with the programming committee and providing administrative support
  • Reporting to the board with financial reports at quarterly meetings
  • Planning & coordinating a programme calendar for the year
  • Managing and developing Market Gallery’s archive and website, ensuring adequate documentation of events and exhibitions
  • Supporting communications for the gallery programme
  • Gathering data on programme and Market’s activity for writing reports to funders and board
  • Liaison with the building manager of Market Gallery’s location
  • Responding to general enquiries
  • Acknowledging and strictly abiding by Market Gallery’s Health & Safety procedures and other policies
  • Undertaking any training deemed necessary by the board and committee
  • Supporting the development of Market Gallery’s physical and digital accessibility

Essential skills:

  • Clear, confident and friendly communication skills
  • Understanding of artist‑run spaces in Scotland
  • Experience of budget management
  • Experience of funding applications and reporting
  • Excellent knowledge of excel and google sheets
  • Interest in Market Gallery programme
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently without supervision
  • Experience of supporting artists at differing stages of career and experience
  • Experience of group facilitation
  • Writing artist contracts
  • Knowledge of installation resources
  • Implementing wider access measures
  • Using bookkeeping/accounting software (Sage ideally)
  • Preparing financial and narrative reports for board meetings
  • Interest and/or experience in archival practices
