Scottish Brain Sciences is a Life Sciences Company with Headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland. We conduct observational research and deliver clinical trials of new treatments for a range of neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease. We foster the rapid translation of research into practice (bench to bedside).

Overview

We are seeking a detail oriented and organised Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial transactions and ensure accurate, timely financial records. The ideal candidate will have strong numerical skills, experience with accounting software, and the ability to work independently while supporting the wider finance function. This is a part-time bookkeeping role, working 2 days per week (14 hours total).

Some of what you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions (sales, purchases, receipts, payments).
  • Enter and reconcile data in accounting software.
  • Accounts Payable
    • Process supplier invoices, credit notes and expenses using the Hubdoc app.
    • Prepare and schedule payments.
    • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Produce and issue customer invoices.
    • Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts.
    • Record customer receipts and allocate payments.
  • Bank & Ledger Reconciliation
    • Reconcile bank accounts using automated bank feeds to import and categorise daily transactions.
    • Reconcile credit cards using automated bank feeds to import and categorise daily transactions.
    • Maintain and reconcile petty cash.
    • Maintain and update the general ledger.
  • Tax & Compliance Support
    • Ensure all financial transactions comply with legislation and company policy.
    • Assist preparing monthly financial summaries, including profit & loss, cash‑flow reports, and balance sheets.
    • Assist providing supporting documents for management and external accountants.
  • Administrative & Support Duties
    • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
    • Assist with year‑end processes and audits.

Skills, experience, and qualifications you’ll bring:

  • Good understanding of basic accounting principles and experience of UK accounting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software platforms; knowledge of XERO and Hubdoc is a definite advantage.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • High attention to detail, strong numerical ability, and the ability to work independently in remote or hybrid settings.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
