Role Purpose
To provide effective leadership of learning and teaching within the designated subject group. The post holder will be responsible for teaching assigned classes, as well as leadership and management activities within the school and across the learning community.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Subject to the policies of the school and the council the duties of principal teachers are to perform such tasks as the headteacher shall direct. These should give reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to:
- All duties related to teaching of assigned classes within the curriculum
- Assessing, recording and reporting on work of pupils
- Preparing pupils for examination and assisting with their administration
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
- Participating in issues relating to school planning, raising achievement and attainment and individual review
- Responsibility for the leadership, good management and strategic direction of colleagues
- Curriculum development within the school and across the learning community
- Quality assurance within designated subject groups
- Contributing to the development of school policy in relation to the behaviour management of pupils
- The Leadership, management and guidance of colleagues
- Reviewing the CPD needs, career development and performance of colleagues
- The provision of advice, support and guidance to colleagues
- Implementation of whole school policies dealing with assessment and pupil welfare
- Working in partnership with colleagues, parents, and staff in other schools as appropriate
