Role Purpose

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To undertake tasks, which may include helping with some or all of the following, depending on the needs of the individuals:
    • Communication
    • Written tasks
    • Use of IT
    • Motor difficulties
    • Listening to instructions
    • Following instructions
    • Completing tasks
    • Mobility
    • Self care/personal hygiene
    • Toileting
    • Cleaning up children who have wet or soiled themselves
    • Social skills
    • Preparation of resources/materials
    • Supervision during intervals/lunch times
    • Feeding and medication (after training)
  • To undertake support for individuals or groups as requested by the Head Teacher, Class Teacher and/or Learning Support Teacher.
  • To assist in the implementation of plans, devised by the CT and/or LST or other agencies as required.
  • To monitor on an informal basis the progress of pupils in learning and behaviour.
  • To contribute to reports for pupils for discussion at review and planning meetings.
  • To liaise with HT, CT and/or LST and other agencies as required.

This profile is indicative of the nature and level of responsibility associated with the post. It is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake such other duties as may be required by the Head of Service to meet the needs and responsibility of the Service and the Council.

Essential

No formal qualifications are required, but an acceptable standard of school education is desirable. Pupil Support Assistants will be required to undertake on the job training as and when available.
