Role Purpose

SBC Roads operations have a vacancy at operative level based at our Eshiels depot near Peebles. This job requires the post holder to support the provision of an efficient and effective service in accordance with predetermined schedules. The post holder should be qualified and/or specially trained. The role may include but is not restricted to mechanical digging operations or to undertake as part of a team general roads maintenance including roads drainage, concreting, kerbing, blocking and blacktop works. Ensure that work is performed in a safe and responsible manner in compliance with the relevant risk assessment for the duties/tasks. To respond to emergencies all year round and be required to be on standby rotas for summer and winter maintenance operations.

Essential

  • A basic education (Numeracy and literacy)
  • Certified relevant machinery and plant use qualification/s (i.e. Lantra certificates, NPTC, SVQ 1, CSCS, CPCS or NPORS cards) or obtained within reasonable timescales
  • A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post. If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a drivers licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability. Should it be possible to make such an adjustment in order that you can undertake the travel responsibilities of the post, this will be taken into account in consideration for this role.
