Role Purpose

Scottish Borders Council is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced civil engineer to act as an Engineer within its Road Structures team. The successful applicant will assist the appropriate Team Leader in managing the Council’s infrastructure assets, primarily bridges, culverts and roadside walls.

Qualification Requirements

A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with an appropriate Engineering Institution or willing to obtain within an agreed timescale upon appointment. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate relevant experience of civil engineering design and construction and have a sound knowledge and understanding of engineering principles. They will also have:

  • The ability to assist in managing the Council’s statutory responsibilities in relation to its road structure assets.
  • The ability to assist in developing and implementing relevant asset management plans.
  • The ability to lead in the preparation, procurement, delivery and supervision of revenue and capital maintenance works.
  • Detailed knowledge of current CDM and other Health and Safety Regulations.
  • The ability to ensure effective communication with Clients (both internal and external, public and private sector), Members, Staff, local communities and the public.
  • A full current driving licence.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in Civil or Structural Engineering or appropriate discipline or present evidence of comparable experience and training.
  • Incorporated or chartered professional qualification and membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers or Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation or willing to obtain within agreed timescale on appointment.
  • A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post.
