Role Purpose

Scottish Borders Council is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced civil engineer to act as an Engineer within its Engineering Design team. The successful applicant will take forward engineering infrastructure projects and assist the appropriate Team Leader(s) in the delivery of engineering construction projects through design, procurement, construction and handover stages.

Applicants are required to be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with an appropriate Engineering Institution or willing to obtain within an agreed timescale upon appointment.

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate relevant experience of the design and supervision of construction projects, and sound experience of CDM and other Health and Safety Regulations. They will also have:

• the ability to deliver engineering construction projects through the design, procurement, construction and handover stages to agreed standards

• the ability to assist in preparing programmes of work in support of the Team Leader

• the ability to assist in preparing and reviewing project briefs including consultation and to estimate, update and report project costs as necessary

• the ability to undertake tendering and procurement procedures including supervision and monitoring of contractors, consultants, sub-consultants and other specialists

• the ability ensure effective communication with Clients (both internal and external, public and private sector) Members, Staff, local communities and the public

• a full current driving licence

 

Essential

Educated to degree level in Civil Engineering or appropriate discipline or present evidence of comparable experience and training.

Incorporated or chartered professional qualification and membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, or willing to obtain within agreed timescale on appointment.

A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post. * If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a drivers licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability. Should it be possible to make such an adjustment in order that you can undertake the travel responsibilities of the post, this will be taken into account in consideration for this role.
