Role Purpose

Scottish Borders Council is looking for an enthusiastic civil engineer to act as an Assistant Engineer within its Road Structures team. The successful applicant will assist the appropriate Team Leader in managing the Council’s infrastructure assets, primarily bridges, culverts, and roadside walls.

Qualification Requirements

  • Educated to HND or HNC in Civil or Structural Engineering (or relevant discipline) or present evidence of comparable experience and training.
  • The ability to assist in managing the Council’s statutory responsibilities in relation to its road structure assets.
  • The ability to assist in scheme identification, design, and option appraisal of infrastructure assets in line with developed forward programmes.
  • The ability to assist in the preparation, procurement, delivery, and supervision of revenue and capital maintenance works.
  • Good knowledge of current CDM and other Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Ability to manage conflicting demands, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.
  • A full current driving licence.

Essential

  • Educated to HND or HNC in Civil or Structural Engineering (or relevant discipline) or present evidence of comparable experience and training.
  • A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post. If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driver's licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability. Should it be possible to make such an adjustment in order that you can undertake the travel responsibilities of the post, this will be taken into account in consideration for this role.
