Mear Technology provides a full cycle of IT services including consultancy, supply, installation, configuration, monitoring and support.
Overview
As a Developer Apprentice, you’ll play a hands-on role in modernising and extending our in-house helpdesk system. Your days will mix coding, collaboration, and creativity — and you’ll see your contributions go live and make a difference.
This is a 24-month fixed term contract where the successful applicant will work towards a SCQF Level 6 Software Development diploma with GP Strategies over 12-months.
Salary: ÂŁ16,000 – ÂŁ22,000 per annum (DOE)
Working hours: Monday to Friday 9:00 – 17.30, 37.5hrs per week
Location: On-site role – part of a close, collaborative team

As a Developer Apprentice, you’ll play a hands-on role in modernising and extending our in-house helpdesk system. Your days will mix coding, collaboration, and creativity — and you’ll see your contributions go live and make a difference.
You’ll Learn How To
- Help migrate our existing system from ASP.NET Web Forms to ASP.NET Core (C#)
- Develop elegant, responsive interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the Bootstrap framework
- Work with tools like GitHub, Ollama (AI), and n8n (workflow automation)
- Integrate systems using APIs, and help build desktop utilities to support backend processes
- Contribute your ideas to real-world software used every day by our business and clients
- Collaborate in a supportive, friendly team that values learning, creativity, and trust
On completion, as well as the valuable work experience you have gained, you get a nationally recognised qualification at SCQF Level 6.
We want to work with someone who’s excited about solving problems and loves creating things with code. If you\’re curious, driven, and like working with others to build something useful, we’d love to hear from you.
Must-Haves
- National 5s at grades A–C in Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications)
- Some experience coding
- A real interest in development — professionally or personally
- Strong attention to detail and an organised mindset
- A genuine desire to learn, ask questions, and grow as a developer
Bonus Points If You
- Experience or knowledge of ASP.NET (C#) or other object-oriented languages
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or Bootstrap
- Interest in automation, APIs, or AI-assisted development
- Enjoying team-based work and good communication with non-technical colleagues
