GE Aerospace Caledonian at Prestwick is a world‑class aero engine overhaul repair facility, specialising in the refurbishment of advanced‑technology engines for some of the world’s largest airlines. Over 800 highly trained personnel are employed at our purpose‑built facility adjacent to Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, each making a valuable contribution to the continued success of the business.

In order to maintain the high standards demanded by our customers, it is essential to train people for the engineering positions of the future. GE Caledonian, in partnership with Ayrshire College, deliver a Modern Apprenticeship programme designed to meet current industry standards. You will be working on the most modern aircraft jet engines and accessories, and will be provided with training commensurate with our position as world leaders in the industry.

In addition to this you are expected to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award scheme and actively participate in our volunteering initiatives. The Modern Engineering Apprentice programme will consist of three years on‑the‑job training at our Prestwick site in conjunction with academic studies delivered by Ayrshire College.

The Engineering Apprentice will function under the overall guidance of the Apprentice Coordinator but also on a day‑to‑day basis be managed by the Team Leader / Supervisor in charge of the department where the Apprentices’ current training is taking place. For the duration of the Apprenticeship at GE Caledonian, you will gain practical experience and develop theoretical knowledge whilst obtaining formal qualifications, which are recognised and fully transferable within the aerospace industry.

Due to the broad range of engineering disciplines within GE Aerospace, engineering apprenticeships can encompass aircraft engine overhaul mechanics, CNC/manual machinists, mechanical & electrical maintenance and mechanical inspectors. You will perform multiple aspects of maintenance and repair to the highest quality. Excellent communication skills are required, along with the ability to accurately follow work process instructions. You will have a keen sense of achievement and take pride in the work you undertake and produce. The ability to work efficiently within a team is essential.

Successful candidates will learn all aspects of aircraft engine overhaul and the support functions which enable the business to operate at the highest possible level to continue growing and delivering for our global customer base. During this time you will be expected to achieve a minimum of SVQ Level 3, and an HNC in Engineering as well as developing core skills. SVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations @ SCQF Level 5 OR Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering – to be completed by August 2026 to be considered.
