Overview
As Planning & Design Engineer at SSE Thermal, you contribute to the planning, design and asset management of our EHV/HV/LV networks.
You’ll work with cross-functional teams across new connections, reinforcements and asset replacements, while upholding regulatory standards.
The role engages stakeholders throughout project lifecycles and supports governance processes.
This is a critical contribution to SSE’s energy transition and growth in essential electricity infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Support system planning and design activities for existing networks, development plans and new assets
- Contribute to the asset management and investment program to improve health index, safety and growth delivery
- Ensure adherence to electrical distribution standards for EHV/HV/LV networks and maintain compliance
- Oversee design and specification of new connections, diversions, reinforcements and capital replacement projects, coordinating with project teams
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders and support governance processes across planning and design activities
- Key requirements
- Degree level qualification in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of regulatory standards for Distribution Network Operators and the Distribution Code
- Experience with safety legislation, large connection lifecycles and stakeholder management
- Understanding of planning, design, operation and development of EHV/HV/LV networks
- Strong skills in spreadsheets and power systems analysis software to model networks and present results
