Overview

As Group Safety, Health and Environment Director, you will lead SSE’s SHE function and act as the principal professional authority. You’ll set the group-wide SHE strategy, governance and management-system framework to protect people, assets and the environment across all businesses and partnerships. You will embed SHE in strategy, investment, operations and projects, while driving resilience and learning. The role offers high-impact exposure to the Board and executive leadership, shaping risk management and regulatory engagement in a complex, regulated environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead the Group SHE strategy, standards and management-system framework across all entities and activities
  • Oversee assurance, reporting and learning to drive improvements from incidents and findings
  • Govern Group-wide risk governance for critical projects, contractors and major programmes
  • Advise the Board and Group Executive Committee on SHE performance and strategic decisions
  • Represent SSE with regulators and key stakeholders on safety, health and environmental matters
  • Embed SHE in strategy, investment, operations, acquisitions and partnerships
  • Lead resilience initiatives and incident readiness across the organization

Key requirements

  • Executive-level SHE leadership in a complex, high-hazard, regulated setting
  • Postgraduate expertise or equivalent experience with Chartered IOSH or comparable membership
  • Deep UK and Irish SHE regulatory knowledge across safety, health, environment and contractor governance
  • Proven ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams and influence senior stakeholders
