Overview

As part of SSEN Transmission, you contribute to upgrading and connecting renewable generation to the UK grid, enabling the transition to clean energy. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary engineering team on high-voltage transmission overhead lines up to 400 kV, delivering from feasibility through construction and commissioning. Your work supports safe, high-quality solutions and continuous improvement across projects. This role offers meaningful impact on communities and the energy transition, with opportunities for technical leadership and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Support development, design and delivery of HV transmission overhead lines from feasibility to commissioning
  • Produce and review engineering deliverables, technical specifications and scope documents
  • Apply safety by design to identify and manage risks across engineering, construction and operation
  • Collaborate with project teams, contractors, consultants and operational stakeholders
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the engineering community

Key requirements

  • Degree, HND or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline or significant industry experience
  • Strong technical skills in overhead line development, design and specification (Engineer/Senior Engineer)
  • Ability to manage technical risk and support decision-making across the project lifecycle
  • For Senior roles, experience providing technical leadership and mentoring while leading complex workstreams
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with cross-disciplinary relationship-building
  • Proactive, collaborative, with willingness to learn and contribute to the wider team
  • Open to applicants from outside the electricity transmission industry with transferable skills
