Overview

As Head of Risk, you will lead SSE's enterprise risk agenda and provide the Board with a forward-looking view of risk, resilience and opportunities. You will champion the Enterprise Risk Management Framework across the organisation and embed risk considerations in strategy, investment and operations. You will build data-driven risk intelligence, quantitative modelling and scenario analysis to inform decisions and support sustainable growth. You will work closely with senior leaders to strengthen governance, resilience and risk disclosures in a complex and evolving environment. This is a high-impact role that shapes risk culture and long-term value creation at SSE.

Responsibilities

  • Lead identification, assessment and oversight of strategic, principal and emerging risks across the Group
  • Provide data-driven risk intelligence, horizon scanning and forward-looking insights to the Board and Executive Team
  • Establish and embed a data-driven risk intelligence capability using internal and external information
  • Develop and implement Risk Governance and Enterprise Risk Management frameworks across all Business Units and Corporate Functions
  • Lead risk modelling, quantification, stress testing and scenario analysis to inform strategic decisions
  • Define risk appetite, acceptance and escalation frameworks for informed decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and governance requirements, including risk reporting and viability assessments
  • Collaborate with Crisis Management, Business Continuity and Cyber Security to strengthen resilience

Key requirements

  • Significant senior leadership experience in enterprise risk management or related discipline
  • Degree, Master's or relevant professional qualification with strong ERM expertise
  • Proven ability to advise and challenge Executive and Board-level stakeholders
  • Experience in strategic risk assessment, horizon scanning, emerging risk analysis and scenario-based decision making
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capability with risk modelling and stress testing experience
  • Deep understanding of governance, risk appetite, internal controls and regulatory landscape
