Overview

As Site Construction Manager for the Bingally 400kV Substation project, you will lead on-site construction and commissioning activities to deliver critical transmission infrastructure safely and on time. You will partner with contractors and SSEN Operations to uphold safety, quality, and regulatory standards while coordinating resources to meet the project programme. You’ll shape on-site culture, maintain detailed documentation and reporting, and ensure compliance with CDM and statutory requirements. This is a hands-on leadership role at a key energy transition project with a clear impact on grid reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site construction and commissioning activities for high voltage substation works
  • Coordinate with appointed contractor and SSEN Operations to meet safety and environmental goals
  • Oversee bulk earthworks, civils, building construction, switchgear, transformer, earthing, and busbar installation and commissioning
  • Maintain weekly/monthly progress reports and detailed on-site records (ITPs, KPIs, QA documentation)
  • Ensure compliance with planning consents, SHE legislation, and CDM regulations
  • Foster a collaborative safety culture and manage on-site resources to align with programme
  • Ensure adherence to NEC contracts and fulfil NEC Supervisor role where applicable

Key requirements

  • SMSTS 5-day site management qualification or equivalent
  • Experience on-site in construction/commissioning of HV substations or similar large infrastructure
  • Experience managing multiple Contractors/Sub Contractors within time and budget constraints
  • HND in engineering or construction management (or equivalent)
  • Full valid driving licence
  • Strong leadership, planning and communication skills; IT proficiency (Word, Excel, BIM)
  • Understanding of NEC contracts and experience as NEC Supervisor
  • Ability to travel to and be on site five days a week
