Overview
As Senior Contract Manager in the Procurement and Commercial team, you will enable delivery of Island connections within the SSEN Transmission portfolio. You’ll steer procurement strategies, contract negotiations, and post‑contract commercial management to support major capital projects. You will work closely with internal customers to ensure governance and value for money on large programmes. Responsibilities
- Develop project procurement strategies and manage end‑to‑end procurement processes
- Negotiate terms, conditions, and prices through to contract award while ensuring compliance with Utilities Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2016
- Produce cost estimates and maintain evidence to satisfy internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Ofgem)
- Manage cost and budget reporting, change control, payments, and expenditure
- Provide robust post‑contract commercial management, including compensation events and adherence to the Commercial Manual
- Promote safety and safe working practices across internal and external teams
- Draft and interpret commercial contracts; work with NEC and standard form contracts; advise on bespoke arrangements
- Lead on supplier negotiations and maintain strong supplier relationships to secure value for money on large projects
Key requirements
- Experience drafting/interpreting commercial contracts; knowledge of NEC and standard form contracts
- PQS background with client‑side procurement strategy experience (QS qualification or similar)
- Strong commercial acumen with proven ability to deliver value for money on large programmes
- Track record negotiating high‑value construction and civil engineering contracts
- Ability to lead challenging commercial discussions and maintain stakeholder relationships
- Experience in estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration
- Competence in cost reporting, forecasting, accruals, and supply chain payments
