Overview
In this role you will help deliver a net zero transmission network by driving technical excellence in HVDC/HVAC cable projects. You will work with cross‑functional teams to advance pathways to 2030, shaping cable routes, landfalls and design safety. You will mentor engineers and manage risks to ensure compliant, high‑quality installation and commissioning. This is a hands‑on opportunity to influence project delivery at scale within a leading energy company.

Responsibilities
- Support FEED activities including options assessment, cable route and landfall development, and risk assessment with environmental, consenting, geotechnical, civil and offshore installation teams
- Drive safety‑in‑design as part of Designer and Principal Designer duties; manage geotechnical risks and reduce technical, quality, health and safety risks through identification, assessment, mitigation, communication and record keeping
- Define cable system requirements for ECCs and contribute to tender reviews as a core member of the technical team
- Review and approve Contractor designs and deliverables for compliance with Employer’s requirements and legislation, while overseeing installation and commissioning works
- Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support throughout their traineeships
Key requirements
- BEng/BSc (or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Proven technical expertise from HVDC or HVAC transmission cable project development and delivery
- Experience with ECC contracts and CDM regulations, particularly as Supervisor and Principal Designer
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, specifications and best‑practice recommendations
- Effective communication, time and priority management, and ability to mentor junior engineers
