Overview

In this role you drive mechanical building services design and delivery for high-profile, technically complex projects on the Scotland electricity transmission network. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to shape early design through delivery, commissioning and handover, ensuring technical assurance and compliant execution. You’ll mentor engineers and collaborate with consultants and contractors to achieve high-quality outcomes. This position supports SSE’s transition to cleaner energy and offers a hands-on role with meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development, review and approval of mechanical building services designs, specs and scopes of work across infrastructure projects
  • Provide technical assurance during delivery, supporting construction, installation and commissioning
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering solutions, manage technical risk, and implement best practices
  • Mentor and develop engineers within the team and share expertise
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure compliant, high-quality outcomes

Key requirements

  • Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering for complex construction or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards, CDM regulations and practical application
  • Ability to assess technical challenges, evaluate solutions and make informed recommendations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management across multidisciplinary teams
  • Degree in Building Services Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration (advantageous)
