Overview
In this role you lead Safety, Health and Wellbeing across SSE’s Transmission regions, shaping a healthy and safe working environment. You will drive SHW leadership, establish a skilled advisory team, and support the rollout of Safety Management Systems with regulatory compliance. You’ll work with Network and support directorates to drive continuous improvement and embed our safety blueprint. Responsibilities
- Provide SHW leadership and expert guidance to Network and support directorates to implement Safety Management Systems and comply with legislation
- Develop and coach the SHW team to raise capability, track regional issues, and share best practices
- Support the Lead SHW Manager in strategic safety improvements and deputise when needed
- Establish and lead a team of Occupational SHW Advisers, embedding Blueprint behaviours and a positive SHW culture
- Contribute to a healthy, safe workplace by driving continuous improvements and positive outcomes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence safety culture and risk management
Key requirements
- Experience with high-risk operational activities on transmission/distribution networks or similar high-hazard environments
- Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation, including CDM 2015
- IOSH registration or equivalent with CPD, or willingness to progress
- Excellent written and spoken communication; ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Structured, systematic problem-solving approach with risk analysis and solutioning capability
- Graduate qualification in Occupational Safety or related discipline
- Ability to deputise for Lead SHW Manager and coordinate across regions
