Overview

In this role, you will lead procurement and commercial activities for high-value offshore and onshore transmission projects, supporting governance and cost control. You will manage a team, coordinate with project teams and senior stakeholders, and ensure compliant procurement across large capital programs. The role offers cross-location flexibility, a strong focus on strategy and contract management, and meaningful impact on SSE’s ambitious investment programme.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute project procurement strategies for main package contracts
  • Manage procurement processes from bid to award, including negotiation of terms
  • Ensure compliance with Utilities Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2016 and Procurement Act 2023
  • Line manage the Procurement and Commercial Team across multiple large capital projects
  • Support cost estimating, forecasting, and change management with robust cost reporting
  • Provide robust contract commercial management to align with project goals
  • Maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships with project teams, senior management and suppliers
  • Oversee governance papers and presentations to Senior Leadership

Key requirements

  • Experience leading a procurement and commercial function for large capital contracts
  • Strong track record in strategy development and implementation
  • Experience with NEC, FIDIC and LOGIC contract forms
  • Proficiency in cost management, including reporting, forecasting and accruals
  • Knowledge of procurement policies and regulatory provisions
  • Offshore and onshore transmission industry experience is preferred
  • Line management experience
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, or relevant Business field (ideally)
  • Ability to interact with senior stakeholders and external suppliers
