In this role you will apply geotechnical expertise to large transmission and substation projects, helping to assess ground conditions and inform design. You will work across disciplines, supporting early-stage development and risk management to support the UK’s net-zero energy transition. You’ll join a growing geotechnical team delivering major infrastructure across Scotland and beyond, contributing to safe, innovative solutions. Responsibilities
- Provide geotechnical insight across projects, including substations, overhead lines, and onshore routes
- Support civil engineering scopes for geotechnical works and align contractor designs with project needs and contracts
- Assist early-stage development, including site selection, ground investigations, and feasibility analysis
- Contribute to geotechnical data management and development of guidance documents and innovation initiatives
- Promote safe design by managing geotechnical risks and supporting CDM responsibilities within the Principal Designer team
Key requirements
- Degree in geology, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, or a related discipline
- Hands-on experience supervising large earthworks schemes
- Ability to review technical deliverables (desk studies, ground investigation reports, foundation designs, slope stability reports, earthwork strategies, material management plans)
- Solid knowledge of industry standards and regulations (ECC contracts and CDM duties) in supervisory/design roles
- Experience in the energy sector, client or designer side
