Overview
As part of the SSEN Transmission pathway to 2030, this role drives HVDC cable project engineering across landfall, routes, and installation, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, compliant delivery.
You contribute to FEED activities and design risk management, shaping offshore and onshore cable projects for the net-zero agenda.
You’ll lead by example in technical excellence, mentorship, and safety-led design.
This is a hands-on opportunity to influence major transmission infrastructure with tangible climate and energy-transition impact.

Responsibilities
- Support Front End Engineering Design activities including options assessment and route development
- Collaborate with environmental, land consenting, geotechnical, civil, and offshore installation teams
- Promote safety-in-design and fulfill CDM duties as Designer/Principal Designer
- Review contractor deliverables for compliance with Employer's requirements and safety standards
- Supervise installation and commissioning to ensure regulatory and Employer compliance
- Mentor junior engineers and support trainees
- For Senior roles: inform EPC contract requirements, support tender reviews, lead analytical studies, and provide technical leadership
- Key requirements
- BEng in Engineering
- Experience in HVDC or HVAC transmission cable projects
- Knowledge of EPC contracts and CDM regulations (Supervisor/Principal Designer roles)
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and specifications
- Strong communication, time management, and organisational skills
- Mentorship experience and a drive to develop technical excellence
