Overview
In this role, you will lead the Assurance function for SSEN Transmission’s Asset Management System, delivering risk-based internal audits and guiding external ISO 55001 certification activities. You’ll coordinate the audit lifecycle, manage the team, and provide assurance to senior stakeholders on key risks and improvement opportunities. You work across assurance, risk, and group functions to ensure evidence-led activity. The role supports Scotland-wide asset management governance within a flexible, hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead the Assurance function within Network Strategy and Assurance, setting priorities, standards, and team performance
- Own and maintain the Asset Management Internal Audit Procedure and the Asset Management System Review, Assurance & Development Strategy
- Develop and deliver a risk-based internal audit programme aligned with ISO 55001, overseeing the full audit lifecycle
- Act as principal contact for external ISO 55001 certification audits, coordinating scopes, schedules, site visits, and stakeholder prep
- Direct assurance reporting and corrective-action oversight, identify systemic risks and improvement opportunities, and coordinate with Risk and Assurance and Group functions
- Oversee the Directorate’s annual Letter of Assurance return
- Provide assurance guidance to senior stakeholders and ensure activity is evidence-led and risk-focused
Key requirements
- Experience managing audit programmes, assurance and governance of management systems in a complex, regulated or asset-intensive organisation
- Strong knowledge of ISO 55001 and risk-based management system auditing
- Professional qualification in audit/assurance/risk or asset management, plus Lead Auditor qualification or equivalent experience; IAM qualification advantageous
- Strong people-management skills and ability to develop team capability
- Analytical, with excellent communication and judgement; able to interpret complex evidence and present findings to senior stakeholders
- Full, valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to SSEN Transmission sites and offices
