Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We\’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base \’home\’ location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: £58,100 – £87,100 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Role

SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Senior Cable Assurance Engineer to join our Network Engineering team. This role involves providing technical leadership across the Cable Engineering discipline, creating and maintaining technical specifications alongside independent design and technical assurance responsibilities & wider research and innovation guidance.

You will

  • Write, maintain and own technical specifications and guidance notes required for all HVAC or HVDC cables used on the Transmission network and review existing specifications and update them based on lessons learnt from projects and to include development of technology.
  • As part of the Technical Authority, review test plans to ensure that all technology and equipment selected is adequately tested, proven, validated and review proposed suppliers and their factories to confirm their suitability to be approved for use on the Transmission network.
  • Provide subject matter expert input to design reviews carried out by the Design Authority, provide specialist input where required, verify project proposals are fit for purpose and identify any scope changes required.
  • Provide technical guidance and advice to the Transmission business for new HVAC or HVDC cables, cable replacements and cable repairs.
  • Represent SSEN Transmission at industry body events such as ENA, IEC or CIGRE working groups and attend conferences.

You have

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline and Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
  • Demonstrable experience in all aspects of testing of transmission voltage HVAC / HVDC cables, and their associated national and international standards.
  • A detailed knowledge and understanding of a range of National Grid, British, and international standards relevant to transmission underground / subsea cables and cable accessories.
  • The ability and experience to technically assess quality issues, problems and/or faults related to HVAC / HVDC cables.
  • Experience in manufacturing of HVAC / HVDC cables would also be advantageous.
