Base Location: Flexible, Central Southern England
We\’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base \’home\’ location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Central Southern England.
Salary: £77,488 – £91,285 + car allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Our Technical Services Team plays a critical role in shaping the future of the Distribution network by delivering Operational Technology solutions. From advanced Protection and Control Systems to Real-Time and Telecommunications Systems, we design and support the technologies that keep the network safe, reliable, and ready for tomorrow’s challenges.

You Will
- Lead and promote operational safety across the Distribution network, including developing safe systems of work and ensuring Real Time Systems support network safety and are properly commissioned.
- Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of Real Time Systems (6.6kV–132kV), supporting capital projects, customer connections, and fault diagnosis.
- Manage a team of expert engineers, handling project planning, mentoring, safety, and compliance, while supporting technical strategy and ensuring accurate asset data.
- Collaborate with trade bodies, contractors, manufacturers, and internal teams across the SSEN Distribution business.
- Help shape future strategy in SCADA and Protection & Control, staying current with tech developments and influencing system design and specifications.
You Have
- Significant experience in utility/engineering environments with a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Proven leadership in coaching, motivating, and managing teams to achieve performance goals.
- Expert knowledge in SCADA, Protection, Teleprotection systems, RTUs, telemetry, and communications.
- Strong operational understanding of electricity networks, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including technical reporting and workload prioritisation.
There will be a need for travel and a full UK driving license is essential.
