The role Distribution's Portfolio Management Office (PMO) provides governance and support across the business's 'Transform, Run and Grow' investments. This includes a portfolio of more than £200M capex focusing on people, process, organisation, and technology transformation, targeting benefits and value realisation in excess of £150M.
The PMO is responsible for establishing and ensuring robust and rigorous transformation portfolio delivery processes (including governance, reporting, cost management, benefits management, risk management, strategic alignment, portfolio prioritisation and optimisation, portfolio analysis, scenario planning, and management information development) for the safe and effective delivery of transformation.
A key part of this role will involve developing, introducing, and embedding governance, processes, methods, and new ways of doing things to help grow maturity and capability. The role will be instrumental in helping grow organisational capability, skills, and championing standards across Distribution.
You will:
- Collaborate with Finance, key project roles and the PMO Manager developing and applying effective end to end governance, assurance, and control framework for the portfolio of programmes and projects in Distribution.
- Influence and secure support from senior stakeholders including directors across the business.
- Embed the new framework and associated business change into the business through training, support, healthy challenge, process control and coaching of our project colleagues at all levels.
- Collaborate with projects, programmes and Finance to collate and validate all current project data, approval status and the maturity of the estimates and business cases at the time of approval, in order to assess the risk profile of projects and programmes already in delivery.
- Identify risk and work with the PMO Manager to recommend how these can be mitigated and make recommendations to senior stakeholders and the Transformation Sub-Committee (TRSCO) on the action required to address the risks.
- Ensure effective operation of all transformation related governance and forums including assurance of the required business case and project deliverables ahead of governance.
- Develop and deliver project management support services to the projects and programmes in the portfolio. This may include the development, planning and delivery of project and programme health checks and assurance reviews.
You have:
- Extensive experience of developing a project and programme governance and control framework, including setting up and operating project and programme governance, gate reviews and assurance.
- The ability and necessary PMO and project/programme expertise to challenge and support, to embed the framework and support the growth of the project management capability into the business.
- Experience in an agile project environment would be advantageous.
- Understanding of key project and financial controls (cost, schedule, and risk) and process including status reporting, budgeting estimating, forecasting, planning, dependency management, risk and issue management using these to shape the insight and management information required to enable a wide range of stakeholders to understand project, and programme performance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines and/or changing priorities.
- Be highly motivated, self-sufficient, independent and able to work without supervision.
- Problem-solving capabilities with ability to thrive in a challenging environment and develop new skills.
