Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations - A Scottish Mainland Office such as Perth, Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen or any of our Scottish Island Offices.

As a Process Safety and Compliance Engineer within our Embedded Generation Team you will provide support for asset decisions across our Embedded Generation assets, located in 8 power stations, across the Scottish Islands. This successful applicant of this role will manage all aspects of process safety management and ensure compliance with relevant statutory regulations / licence conditions such as Pollution Control and Prevention (PPC), COMAH and ISO 14001. It is essential that all activities align with the corporate standards of the safety management system.

You will:

  • Embed process safety and major accident hazard (MAH) considerations into asset lifecycle activities, providing input to asset design, modification, operation, decommissioning and Asset Lifecycle Plans.
  • Support the development and review of process safety bowties and risk assessments, helping identify credible hazards, prevention and mitigation controls, and demonstrate risks are managed ALARP.
  • Provide process safety input to engineering and operational decisions, including asset condition assessments, investment options and risk assessments for defective or degraded plant.
  • Review existing operational, safety, regulatory and Embedded Generation procedures to align with corporate standards and complete audits to ensure compliance.
  • Support the team by being a consistent point of contact for stakeholder engagement with regulators, managing regulatory reporting and future projects to deliver site improvements.

You have:

  • A degree in Engineering, Safety or Environmental Management or equivalent industry experience, ideally progressing towards Chartered Engineer status or professional accreditation.
  • Sound understanding of process safety principles, major accident hazard risk, and the ability to apply risk-based thinking to engineering and asset decisions.
  • Practical experience contributing to risk assessments, including Bowtie, Process Hazard Reviews, HAZID, or HAZOP methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with a diverse range of internal and external regulatory stakeholders across teams.
  • Ideally have experience in electricity generation, utilities, or regulated infrastructure sectors, with exposure to safety-critical asset management, barrier management, or condition monitoring.

This role involves travel across various locations to support business needs. To enable you to fulfil these responsibilities, as a role requirement, the company will provide access to a vehicle for work-related travel. The requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there will be an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role. A valid driving licence is essential.
