Base Location: Slough, Swindon, Oxford, Melksham, Andover, Yeovil, Poole New Forest, Portsmouth, Petersfield, Aldershot, West London or Reading. We require your base 'home' location to be within commuting distance of the depot.
Salary: £34,749 - £40,939, Plus: Overtime & travel time available. 37 hour working week. Company vehicle provided. Training provided to gain further authorisations and opportunities to constantly progress your career. Full PPE and tools supplied for the role. If based at Slough/West London this will also have a London allowance of £3,000.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time
We are an ‘in-house’ Electrical Construction Team looking for Low Voltage or High Voltage Electrical Construction Fitters to join our team in Southern England. This is an excellent opportunity where you will be working in a team responsible for constructing electrical apparatus within substations on the electricity distribution network from 11kV up to 132kV. You’ll be part of a growing team where safety is our number one priority, we help and support each other, and you will work in an environment where consultation between all personnel is actively encouraged.
You will:
- Deliver High Voltage construction projects in a live electricity substation environment in line with operational safety rules and safety legislation.
- Be involved with installing and commissioning new CT Metering apparatus.
- Operate Telehandlers, Mewps and construct mobile scaffolds (full training will be provided).
- Have a personal development plan that will be created by yourself with guidance from your line manager; this will be reviewed regularly and shape your career path at SSE.
You have:
- Knowledge and experience of installing electrical systems, containment, cabling, plant and small wiring.
- A high regard for safety, an understanding of CDM regulations and good communication skills.
- Previous experience will include working on DC battery systems, internal panel wiring modification, multicore cable terminating and glanding, wiring circuit breakers, CT's/VT's to marshalling kiosks and control panels, AC/DC wiring and replacing 33kV outdoor circuit breakers and isolators.
Preferred But Not Essential:
- Knowledge of the electricity distribution network and experience of working in live electricity substation environments from 11kV - 132kV.
- Previous electricity network operational authorisations would be extremely beneficial as would training and qualifications in scaffold, telehandler, furzeweld, working at heights, confined space, asbestos, COSHH, Loler and SMSTS.
For this role, a full, clean UK driving licence is essential, along with a flexible approach to working hours and work location is a must because the role will involve extensive travel throughout our network area.
