Base Location: You will be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow and Perth.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team within our Supply Chain team, directly supporting the Operations and Maintenance team. Reporting to the Senior Contract Manager, you will provide the necessary pre and post contract procurement and commercial support to a variety of new Contracts within the Operations space. This is an excellent opportunity to grow within the SSE team and contribute to the continued growth of this area of the business.

This role would suit someone from a Quantity Surveying background with experience working either Client or Contractor side; no specific experience working in the Energy sector is required but would be advantageous.

You will:

  • Support the handover of assets and ensure robust Service Contracts for HVDC Converter, HVDC Cables, FACTS, and GIS, including contract negotiation and commercial management during delivery.
  • Assist the Senior Contract Manager and Supply Chain Team in shaping strategies for future Operations and Maintenance requirements and add value by identifying new working methods and opportunities within P&C for the Operations and Maintenance Team.
  • Negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers.
  • Demonstrate stakeholder engagement and management skills, as well as the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem solving.
  • Manage costs and forecasts via regular cost reporting and ensure change management procedures are adhered to, including payment and expenditure management, and cost estimating.
  • Provide robust post contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures, promoting safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.

You have:

  • A degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and have or be working towards professional membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CICES.
  • No less than 2 years post graduate experience.
  • Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration.
  • Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements.
  • Experience of working with NEC.
