Base Location: Flexible. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots in Scotland or Southern England. You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of these locations.

Salary: £61,620 – £72,592 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible first options available.

The role

As an Asset Policy Engineer, you will be a subject matter expert in SSEN Distribution network, engaging with all aspects of our distribution network, from LV to 132kV.

This key role extends from contributing your knowledge and experience across different asset types and ensuring compliance with the latest standards to introducing new equipment. Your technical expertise will empower our team, drive innovation, and uphold our commitment to safety and efficiency.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide Technical Expertise in Distribution Asset Policy: Act as expert in operational policy, developing and standardising specifications to uphold safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide Innovation in Equipment Design & Specification: Lead the design, specification, and standardisation of equipment, incorporating new technologies to optimise lifecycle costs and improve network performance.
  • Cross‑Team Initiatives & Leadership: Provide support to various stakeholders including the wider Asset Policy team (with possible line management duties), Operations, Delivery and Design Teams. Sharing your experiences, knowledge and best practices.
  • Champion Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, driving a culture of health and safety excellence across all teams.

Your qualifications

  • Extensive experience in policy and specification writing, with a solid understanding of both international and British Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of Distribution Networks and how they operate.
  • Expertise in a Distribution asset type and operational background is beneficial.
  • A track record of introducing innovative solutions and managing significant change within complex projects.
  • A passion for driving safety standards and improving the performance and reliability of distribution networks.

Travel across various locations to support business needs. You will be provided with access to a vehicle for work‑related travel. This requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there is an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role.

A valid driving licence is essential.
