Our Electrical Power Networks Engineer Apprenticeship is a three-year programme that combines academic study with practical, real-world training, giving you the foundation to thrive in the energy sector.
What to Expect:
- Study Towards a Recognised Qualification – You’ll work towards a Level 4 Apprentice Electrical Power Networks Engineer qualification, gaining the technical knowledge needed for a successful career.
- Hands-On Experience – When you’re not studying, you’ll work alongside experienced SSE engineers to develop essential engineering skills within our Distribution business. This may include fieldwork or working in teams focused on Design, Planning, and Protection.
- Increased Responsibility in Year 3 – You’ll take on more technical tasks, ensuring safety, designing and implementing protection schemes, and overseeing craftspeople or contractors.
- Exciting Career Opportunities – Upon completion, you’ll be fully qualified to work as a Protection Engineer, Designer, or Field Engineer, with a competitive salary of circa £37k – £42k.

What We’re Looking For:
- Highly organised and able to manage your time effectively.
- Adaptable to different work environments and able to work both independently and in a team.
- Willing to live away from home while attending college or placements across SSE.
- Driving Commitment – it would be beneficial if you are already learning to drive or have your licence already. However, our expectation is that you will hold a full UK driving licence by the end of your programme.

GCSEs:
- Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English, Maths, and Science.
Further Qualifications:
- Level 3 qualification in Engineering OR
- A-Levels in Maths and Physics.
