Base Location: Reading or other SSEN location which includes, Reading, Portsmouth, Swindon, West London, Slough, Havant and Oxford

Salary: £66,100 – £99,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

Do you want to have the opportunity to be part of a team leading the improvement of the growing development of the extra high voltage system in Scotland and England? The Design Engineering manager will lead a team of engineers, consents professionals and framework contractors to ensure all major projects such as connections, cable, overhead lines subsea are construction ready to enter construction

You will

– Be responsible for the Commercial assessment of projects including the evaluation in terms of value and risk, including periodic forecasting across the capital portfolio.

– Lead, manage and develop the engineering design, consents team and framework partners to ensure that a strong, competent and capable team are in place, engaged and motivated to deliver.

– Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to include but not limited to development, engineering, statutory bodies, government bodies, industry groups, local communities/residents and support functions such as, finance, SHE, legal, commercial and procurement.

– Ensure strategy, Objectives and KPIs are in place to enable successful project portfolio design delivery.

– Ensure all works are carried out safely through the application of SSE safety family and five golden rules.

You have

– Experience leading a team of professionals and framework partners to deliver a portfolio of works successfully

– Project management expertise and understanding of major projects delivery e.g. project definition and set up, planning, cost, risk, quality and commercial management

– Ability to lead and motivate a team of highly skilled multi-disciplined individuals, setting clear goals and objectives and measuring performance against them

– Experience engaging successful with external and internal stakeholders including regulatory bodies

– Comfortable in negotiation with strong commercial focus & demonstrates understanding and experience of financial planning for capital projects

– Clear and proven leadership orientation on safety, quality and delivery.
