We are seeking candidates who have an aptitude for arable agronomy and agri-environmental management, a positive attitude, an inquisitive nature, a willingness to learn and enjoy contributing as part of a team.

Company Background

Scottish Agronomy is a farmer-owned co-operative and the leading organisation in Scotland devoted to the provision of independent, unbiased advice and consultancy services to arable farmers and allied businesses across all aspects of combinable crop and potato production. Scottish Agronomy has been supporting arable farms across Scotland for over 40 years and has developed the largest field trials portfolio in the country with over 30,000 trials plots. As well as contributing significantly to AHDB's Recommended List, these industry-leading trials form the foundation of the evidence and experience we provide to our farming members to support them to confidently make decisions appropriate for their farming business.

Key Objective

The key objective of the Agronomist role is to deliver independent advice and develop our network of farmer members and associate businesses.

The Role

The role offers a mix of advisory and consultancy work. The successful candidate will join a team of agronomists and can expect to be involved in a range of activities potentially spanning on-farm agronomy advice; soil management; crop and variety selection; integrated crop management; environmental stewardship; research and innovation. The postholder will over time engage with and positively influence a wide cross section of Members and Stakeholders in the arable sector. The primary role of the post holder is to support and drive farming businesses to thrive through independent agronomy advice, keeping up to date with industry trends and objectively analysing new information and trials results. The post holder will also nurture and maximise new business development opportunities for the cooperative. An element of the role is likely to involve succession planning within the business, as Scottish Agronomy continues to nurture talent and grow opportunities as we continuously look to strengthen the co-operative and plan for succession.

What Scottish Agronomy can offer you:

  • A fulfilling job championing and growing Independent Agronomy without sales. Our priority is to provide benefit for our members, not to sell product.
  • A supportive environment, where you build lasting relationships to support your professional and personal development.
  • Mentorship with industry leading Agronomists.
  • Knowledge and support from the largest field trials programme in the north of the UK.
  • Performance based on members satisfaction, not sales targets.
  • An exciting future for a long and fulfilling career with the cooperative including all required training and continuous professional development.
  • A robust remuneration package to include salary, company vehicle and a comprehensive benefits programme.

BENEFITS: Enhanced Pension, Death in Service, Private Medical, Life Assurance, Vehicle

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be a positive, motivated and courteous individual, who is capable and confident in building and maintaining relationships with both colleagues and members. Applicants should:

  • Have a passion and understanding for Scottish agriculture, developed either through academic study or previous work experience.
