Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) is Scotland’s national mental health charity, operating over 70 services across Scotland. We provide mental health social care support, addictions, and employment services, among others. Our vision is a society where people can live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances.
About the Role:
This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. We have roles available in a new mental health service, commissioned by Glasgow City Council, supporting people living with moderate to severe and enduring mental health issues to live fulfilled lives and achieve goals. Based in the Dowanhill area of Partick, this new service will use recovery-focused interventions, supporting people to develop skills and positive support networks towards living an independent life in the community.
The Recovery Coach is a flexible multi-skilled role within a team providing direct emotional wellbeing and practical support with daily living tasks and medication to individuals to improve their mental health and wellbeing. The team works with people on a 1-2-1 or group basis, in people’s homes and communities, to assess and identify strengths and needs, issues and goals, finding meaningful supports in their community. The team encourages individuals to recognise and use their existing strengths, build new skills in self-management, personal recovery, and capacity.
The Recovery Coach will support people who use our service in partnership with mental health services and primary health care services, enabling individuals to achieve their chosen outcomes and practice a recovery-focused model of working.
What we are looking for:
Everyone we support is different, and we use individually tailored plans to help them identify their strengths and support them in areas where they may need it. In this role, your attitude and personality matter as much as your skills and experiences. We are looking for initiative, compassion, energy, determination, and the ability to motivate and inspire people who use our services to develop their skills and self-confidence and realise their aspirations. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity, and you will go home each day knowing you made a difference.
Supporting the people who use our services means there are a variety of shift patterns including evenings, weekends, sleepovers, and on-calls. You will be allocated to a service base but be required to work flexibly across local services.
What we will provide for you:
- Fully funded SVQ qualification to meet the conditions of your SSSC registration
- Reimbursement of PVG, Disclosure & SSSC annual fees and registration costs
- Funded continuous learning and development opportunities, access to over courses online in addition to classroom and virtual training sessions
- 30 days annual leave rising to 33 after 5 years’ service (pro rata)
- 4 public holidays (pro rata)
- 2 paid wellbeing days off per year to use on what matters to you (pro rata)
- Team wellbeing budgets
- Workplace pension scheme
- Life Assurance policy
- Employee Assistance Programme
Closing date for applications will be Wednesday 19th August at 12 noon. This position is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. PVG Scheme Membership, a Right to Work in the UK check, and proof of any qualifications declared in your application will be required. Applications are welcome from people who have experienced mental health difficulties. Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive a high level of applicants and would encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. SAMH is committed to promoting equality and diversity and to represent the communities we are here to support. We aim to have a truly diverse organisation – diversity of thought, background, experience, and of all protected characteristics. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who have experienced mental health problems and individuals from minority communities.
