Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland's national mental health charity. Today, we operate over 70 services in communities across Scotland, providing mental health social care support, addictions and employment services, among others. Together with national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, and physical activity and sport, these services inform SAMH's policy and campaign work to influence positive social change. SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances.

Salary: £26,228 pro rata, £13.45 per hour, (Salary Points 13-19) *Whilst this is a scale for progression, the starting salary is point 13

About the Role
SAMH Mental Health Practitioners play an important role in supporting people who use our services to develop skills to better manage their mental health and live independently, upholding their rights to privacy, dignity and personal choice. SAMH community services provide a range of mental health and social care support to individuals and may also provide support with other complex needs. SAMH Moray provides 6 pathways of recovery based practical and emotional support to individuals across Moray and SAMH Mental Health Practitioners will work across these 6 pathways.
Some of the key activities of the role include:
- Supporting clients in their homes and the community and encourage them to participate in activities for independent living and to be involved in decisions that affect them.
- Assist individuals to manage their mental health with a focus on developing sustainable strategies and building personal resilience.
- Equip individuals to care for themselves and the practicalities of running their own home.
- Deliver specific intervention programmes, such as Distress Brief Intervention, 1-1 work, MyRap and groupwork.
- Assist individuals to develop new skills and achieve new personal goals, rediscover interests and try new things.
- Facilitate support to widen individuals own support network.
- Provide quality support services to clients through effective planning, monitoring, evaluation and review of their requirements in partnership with them.
- Promote the work of SAMH and the work of the service in order to enhance delivery of services to clients.
- Ensure that services provided comply with standards set by SAMH, our values of respect, dignity and equality, and meet the contractual or partnership requirements of relevant external agencies.
What we are looking for
Respect and dignity for the people who use our services is at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for people with great people skills who are honest, reliable and resilient in challenging situations. You will be able to use initiative, compassion, energy and determination to establish therapeutic relationships with individuals with a range of support needs and support them to identify and achieve meaningful goals. Knowledge and experience in supporting people with mental health problems or distress is desirable but not essential, as is experience working with adults with a wide range of support needs. Supporting the people who use our services means there are a variety of shift patterns including evenings and weekends. Please note that travel is an essential part of the role and due to the geographical reach, a valid driving licence and access to own vehicle are desirable for the post.
