We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Technician to join our maintenance team working on the Late Shift. This role can be worked Full time 12noon -9pm or flexible start time up to 6pm-9pm. Saturday morning hours may also be available. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), ensuring they meet safety and operational standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong mechanical background and experience in vehicle repair, fabrication, and electrical systems. The position involves working with a variety of heavy goods vehicles, and requires a commitment to high-quality workmanship and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and comprehensive diagnostics on HGVs to identify faults or potential issues.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on vehicle systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
- Utilise schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex problems accurately.
- Carry out fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly tasks as needed to restore or modify vehicle parts.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to complete repairs efficiently and safely.
- Repair or replace components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical wiring.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed and parts used in compliance with company standards.
- Assist with the training of junior technicians and apprentices and support team members when required.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with reception staff regarding repair status and vehicle condition.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician or similar role within the automotive or transport industry.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
- Proficiency in reading schematics, technical manuals, and electrical diagrams.
- Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, assembly, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Experience working with heavy machinery such as excavators and forklifts is desirable.
- Knowledge of electrical systems within vehicles is essential.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently during repair procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients regarding repairs or issues encountered during servicing.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in vehicle maintenance or electrical systems are mandatory.
