An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Strategic Land & Planning Manager to join a growing and entrepreneurial client-side land and property business based in West Sussex. The business undertakes both direct and funded development, promotion of strategic land, joint ventures in renewable energy, whilst also managing an established mixed-use portfolio. The wider landholding exceeds 6,500 acres across Sussex and Suffolk, with activity spanning a broad range of asset classes including residential, commercial, rural and renewable energy.

Unlike a consultancy environment, this role offers the opportunity to work directly for the business owners, providing genuine exposure to strategic decision-making, value creation and the full development lifecycle from promotion through to planning consent and disposal. This is a key strategic role within the business and offers the opportunity to shape and deliver long-term development initiatives across a high-quality and diverse land portfolio.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading planning strategy and securing planning consents
  • Negotiating and agreeing Section 106 consents
  • Managing site promotion through the development framework
  • Preparing development appraisals and investment papers
  • Coordinating technical consultants and multidisciplinary teams
  • Building relationships with LPAs, stakeholders, and developers
  • Managing land disposals and maximising site value post-consent
  • Advising on opportunities across residential, industrial and solar projects

The successful candidate will have:

  • RTPI or RICS accreditation
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system and development process
  • Experience securing land allocations and planning permissions
  • Commercial awareness and development viability knowledge
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage complex projects across multiple workstreams
