The Financial Controller leads five Finance Business Partners and is responsible for safeguarding the financial integrity of the organisation, ensuring a robust control environment, accurate financial reporting, and full compliance with statutory, group reporting and shareholder requirements. A key part of this role is having a strong relationship with the centralised shared service transactional finance teams and is responsible for monitoring of output specific to the pallet business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of five Finance Business Partners, ensuring high-quality financial support for operational and business leaders.
- Deliver accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes, including group and statutory reporting requirements.
- Oversee and continuously improve financial reporting processes, ensuring reliability and clarity of information used for decision-making.
- Produce and review key financial reporting including management accounts, balance sheet reviews, flash reporting, budgets, forecasts and board reports.
- Lead the annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting process, driving strong financial performance management across the pallet business.
- Collaborate with centralised Credit Control and Accounts Payable teams to ensure strong financial controls and accurate ledger reporting.
- Implement and maintain robust financial controls and processes to ensure consistency, compliance and best practice.
- Promote a culture of financial discipline and control across operational sites and support functions.
- Support capital and revenue expenditure approvals and monitor project spend against approved budgets.
- Contribute to the development and reporting of key business performance metrics, supporting continuous improvement across the business.
- Provide financial insight in business review meetings, supporting Business Unit Operations Directors and senior leadership.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Accountant (CIMA, CA, ACA or ACCA) with 5+ years post-qualification experience.
- Previous experience operating at Finance Manager or Financial Controller level.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to develop and motivate finance teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across both finance and operational teams.
- Experience working in commercial, trading or manufacturing environments, ideally within multi-site operations.
- Experience managing statutory audits and tax processes, including liaison with external auditors and Group Finance teams.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and up-to-date understanding of accounting standards.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability.
- Experience with Navision, Microsoft Dynamics or Business Central 365 would be advantageous.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to identify improvements in systems, processes and financial controls.
