At Scott Logic, we have a reputation for world-class software delivery. We are trusted by some of the world’s leading organisations to build reliable, high-performance, business-critical solutions– and expert advice.

Scott Logic is looking for a Senior User Researcher to help shape and improve public services through evidence-led design and delivery.

You will work as part of multidisciplinary teams alongside service designers, business analysts, product managers, delivery managers, engineers and architects to understand user needs, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure services are designed around the people who use them.

This is a senior delivery role. We are looking for someone who can confidently plan and lead research activities, engage with stakeholders at all levels, and help teams make better decisions through insight and evidence.

The role sits within Scott Logic's Product and User-Centred Design capability, which supports complex public sector programmes across the UK.

One of the first opportunities likely to be available to the successful candidate is a major transformation programme supporting fisheries and marine licensing services in Scotland.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of product, business analysis, design, architecture and engineering specialists, you would help build an understanding of the needs of vessel owners, fishing communities, marine staff, operational teams and policy colleagues. Research would help inform decisions about future service design, operational processes and digital capabilities.

The work will involve engaging with a wide range of users and stakeholders, understanding complex service landscapes and helping ensure future decisions are grounded in real user needs rather than assumptions.

As with many public sector programmes, the challenge is not simply about technology. It is about understanding people, services, policies and operational realities, then turning those insights into practical improvements.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading user research across discovery, alpha, beta and live phases.
  • Planning and conducting interviews, usability testing, contextual research and workshops.
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to shape products and services.
  • Synthesising research findings into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Helping teams understand the needs, behaviours and priorities of users.
  • Supporting service design, product and delivery decisions through evidence.
  • Engaging with client stakeholders and building trusted relationships.
  • Contributing to bids and proposals where user-centred design expertise is required.
  • Supporting the continued growth of Scott Logic's User-Centred Design capability.
  • Helping develop reusable approaches, patterns and delivery assets that strengthen future projects.

What are we looking for?

  • Significant experience delivering user research within complex digital or service transformation programmes.
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of Government Digital Service principles, service standards and user-centred design practices.
  • Experience planning and delivering a range of qualitative research activities.
  • Strong analysis and synthesis skills, with the ability to turn findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders, including senior decision makers.
  • Ability to communicate research findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working within large organisations or complex service environments.
  • A strong understanding of accessibility, inclusion and designing for diverse user needs.

What you'll get in return is:

  • 25 days’ annual leave, rising incrementally to 30 days after six years of service.
  • Generous family leave policies.
  • Access to an employer pension scheme and Group Life Assurance.
  • A range of optional benefits such as discounted gym membership and a cycle-to-work scheme.
  • A meaningful approach to evaluating your performance and providing feedback on your progress.
