Head of Engineering (Scenic Construction, Metal Fabrication, Welding) Scott Fleary Productions is one of London’s leading scenic construction and fabrication companies, delivering high-quality scenic builds across theatre, television, and live events. We are seeking an experienced, driven, and hands-on Head of Engineering to lead our metal fabrication department. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of complex scenic fabrication projects, lead a highly skilled metalwork team, and shape the future of the department. As Head of Engineering, you will oversee a busy fabrication department delivering metalwork, scenic construction, and bespoke engineered solutions. You will ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately, on time, and within budget. You will provide technical leadership and strategic oversight, managing fabrication workflows, improving processes, and supporting the development and wellbeing of your team. Lead the Engineering and fabrication department in delivering high-quality scenic builds from complex technical drawings Plan and coordinate fabrication and build schedules in collaboration with the Workshop Manager Maintain exceptional standards of quality, accuracy, and craftsmanship in metal fabrication and scenic construction Promote and enforce strong health & safety and sustainability practices across the workshop Oversee the safe use, maintenance, and management of all fabrication equipment and tooling Support training, apprenticeships, and ongoing team development Review and improve departmental processes to drive efficiency, consistency, and performance You will be an experienced engineering or fabrication professional with a strong background in metal fabrication, workshop team leadership, and scenic construction or a related industry. Proven experience in scenic construction, architectural fabrication, or a similar industry Strong MIG and TIG welding skills Extensive knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques Experience in planning, scheduling and delivering projects Strong understanding of health & safety practices in a workshop environment Confident using standard digital tools (e.g. Windows, Google Docs) Engineering NVQ or equivalent qualifications Coded welding certifications Experience leading on-site scenic build or installation teams Cycle to Work Scheme Enhanced employer pension contribution or private healthcare Season ticket loan Opportunity to work on diverse, high-profile projects across theatre, TV, and live events If you are ready to lead a talented engineering and fabrication team and contribute to exciting scenic construction projects, we would love to hear from you.
