Our Residential Conveyancing Team combines exceptional client service with extensive local knowledge, supporting clients through one of the most important financial transactions of their lives.
We are looking for a full-time Legal Assistant to join our Residential Conveyancing Team on a maternity cover basis. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a busy and supportive department, providing essential support to our Partners, fee earners, and wider conveyancing team.
The role will be based across both our Lymington and Lyndhurst offices, and the successful candidate will be comfortable working from either location as required.
About the role
As a Legal Assistant, you will provide high-quality administrative and procedural support across a wide range of residential conveyancing matters, including sales, purchases, transfers of equity, remortgages, and new build transactions. You will work closely with our conveyancers to help ensure matters progress efficiently, deadlines are met and clients receive the responsive, personal service for which we are known.
Residential conveyancing is a fast-paced environment where organisation, attention to detail and excellent communication are essential. You will play a key role in helping transactions move smoothly from instruction through to completion.
What you’ll be doing
Client support
- Acting as a professional and welcoming first point of contact for clients.
- Communicating confidently by telephone, email and in person.
- Supporting client appointments, onboarding processes, and ID checks.
- Providing clear procedural updates and ensuring clients receive an excellent level of service throughout their matter.
- Building positive relationships with clients and helping to deliver a seamless client experience.
Matter and document management
- Preparing and organising files, document packs, correspondence, and property-related documentation.
- Managing file opening and closing procedures.
- Maintaining accurate, organised and audit-ready files.
- Tracking key dates, outstanding enquiries, and procedural requirements.
- Ensuring documents and communications are saved and recorded correctly.
- Supporting fee earners with conveyancing documentation throughout transactions.
Administrative support
- Managing diaries, appointments, and meetings for fee earners.
- Supporting billing and completion processes.
- Assisting with document production, formatting, scanning, and electronic filing.
- Liaising with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders, brokers, solicitors and other third parties.
- Helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of a busy conveyancing department
Team support
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the team.
- Supporting Partners and Senior Associates during busy periods.
- Sharing information clearly and effectively to keep matters progressing.
- Contributing to a positive, professional, and supportive working environment.
About you
We are looking for someone who is highly organised, proactive and enjoys working as part of a team.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience working in a law firm.
- Experience within a Residential Conveyancing department would be an advantage.
- Strong typing, document production, and administrative skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Professional communication skills and a client-focused approach.
- Confidence using case management systems and Microsoft Office.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
