As our new Head of Communications and Engagement, you will lead how we connect with colleagues across the Group, ensuring everyone is inspired, informed and truly engaged as owners in our employee-owned business. This role is central to building understanding and pride in our purpose, performance and shared success. You will shape and deliver engaging communications on business and Commonwealth priorities, with a strong focus on customers, SHE, recognition and employee-ownership. Working closely with Governance bodies, the Group Leadership Team and senior managers, you will support clear, meaningful engagement across the Group and actively seek feedback to continuously improve our communication and engagement approach.
Responsibilities
- Build trust and credibility through clear, timely and honest communication, especially during periods of change.
- Own and shape the internal narrative, ensuring colleagues hear key messages directly and understand how their work connects to purpose.
- Coach and equip leaders and line managers to communicate in a human, authentic and effective way.
- Strengthen the colleague experience by creating inclusive, engaging communication across all touchpoints and channels.
- Use insight and feedback to manage sentiment, support culture, and continuously improve engagement and communication impact.
What do I need to be successful in this role?
- Proven experience delivering strategic internal communications and engagement in a complex or multi-site organisation.
- Strong ability to coach senior leaders and managers to communicate with clarity, confidence and authenticity.
- Excellent storytelling and writing skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
- Confidence influencing senior stakeholders and handling sensitive or high-change situations.
- Strong planning, digital and analytical skills to prioritise effectively.
