As our new Group Process Safety Specialist, you will lead and continuously improve the Group’s Process Safety Management (PSM) programme, providing expert support through assisted site visits and acting as the competent authority on process safety. You will maintain a central register of process hazard data and routinely review compliance to ensure robust standards are consistently applied. You will champion the sharing of best practice across all sites, delivering specialist process safety training where needed, and developing meaningful performance indicators. Through auditing and monitoring, you will ensure process safety systems are effective, embedded, and working as intended across the Group.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the identification and control of major accident hazards, ensuring all sites have defined major accident scenarios and robust action plans in place to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
- Establish, implement and continuously improve Group Process Safety Management (PSM) policies, standards and the 20 core elements of the PSM framework, working closely with site leadership teams.
- Act as the Group subject matter expert for process safety, leading hazard identification and risk assessment activities (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, Human Factors), supporting regulatory interactions, and providing technical input to process and engineering design.
- Drive strong process safety performance through clear goals, accountability, performance indicators, and a structured programme of monitoring, audit, review and incident investigation.
- Provide leadership, training and specialist guidance across the Group, collaborating with R&D and Process Technology, maintaining central process hazard data, and ensuring recognised good practice and regulatory requirements are met across all jurisdictions.
Qualifications & What You Need
- Senior-level expertise in Process Safety Management, supported by a relevant formal qualification.
- Proven leadership of process hazard studies, including HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA, with responsibility for standards, training and competency.
- Strong background in chemical or process manufacturing, operating as a subject matter expert at senior and regulatory level.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with fluent English and the ability to build strong rapport.
- Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis (approximately 25–50%) to support and lead site-based activity.
