Blether Buddy Befrienders connect with a ScotsCare client for a few hours each week, in their homes or local communities.
Our clients are Scots living in various locations across London who are experiencing loneliness and social isolation and would like someone to talk to or go out with
Befriending does require a regular weekly or fortnightly commitment and because you will need to form a trusting relationship with someone, we prefer that you commit to volunteering with us for at least 6 months, longer if possible. Most of our befrienders stay involved for much longer, simply because they enjoy what they do, but there is no obligation to do so.
Your time and companionship could have such a positive impact on the person your befriend. Your conversations and time spent together will help to increase their confidence and self -esteem, and youโll be allowing them to do the activities that many of us take for granted; going for a coffee and a chat, for walks in the park, visiting museums, or other places of interest.
Befriending is a rewarding and enjoyable activity, volunteers say they gain as much from the experience as those they befriend. One recently told us that connecting with someone from a different background and generation is the highlight of their week.
To help you feel comfortable and confident in the role, we provide training and ongoing support once you\โre matched. We reimburse out of pocket expenses and run social events for our volunteers throughout the year, plus if you want to do more, or try a different role, there will be opportunities for you to do so.
Two references are required, and an enhanced DBS check will be processed.
If you live in London and want to apply, please get in touch.
