Description:
We’re looking for an Environment Forester to join our Planning and Environment team in the South Region. You’ll be based in our Selkirk office, supporting the Scottish Borders operational hub.
The South Region is Scotland’s most productive for timber, but it also boasts a diverse and ecologically rich landscape—from peatlands and ancient woodlands to key species habitats and scheduled monuments. Our Planning and Environment team ensures that this activity is balanced with environmental protection, enhancement, and climate action.
As Environment Forester, you’ll play a vital role in embedding environmental considerations into the region’s forestry operations. You’ll support planning and delivery of key work programmes, manage your own environment workstream and budget, coordinate surveys and compliance, contribute to designated site and species management, and help identify and deliver biodiversity and heritage improvements—often through partnerships and external funding. The role also includes supervising staff and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
To be successful, you’ll need a strong understanding of UK habitats and species, experience giving mitigation advice, and confidence working with diverse internal and external partners. A relevant qualification (HND or above) in ecology, environment or land management is essential, along with Microsoft Office skills and a full UK driving licence (or equivalent arrangements). Experience with GIS, protected species surveys, and budget or project management is desirable.
